Making An Art Book
One of the best
classes I have taken in the last year was one where we made an art book.
It was a different kind of art education class and I really enjoyed it.

1. Take a trip
to an art school or art gallery and look at the exhibits. Find out
what interests you and what ideas you might like to use while putting
your art book together.
2. Go to an art supply store and purchase items for your art book. You
will need heavy cardboard for the covers and Tyvek to bind the art
book. (Tyvek is the material used in the heavy duty white mailing
envelopes at the post office.) Also be sure to have a heavy duty glue
stick, shipping tags, library or another type of pockets. You can
purchase library pockets at art or office supply stores. Other
supplies might include paint, fibers or ribbon, watercolor pencils,
patterned paper, rubber stamps and embellishments.
3. Choose the theme of your book and gather supplies you have at home.
I chose to make my book about our granddaughter. I had several photos
of her that I used on the pockets and tags.
4. Cut four pieces of heavy paper to glue to the front and back covers
of the book. The library pockets are held in place by using strips of
Tyvek and the heavy glue stick. You can add as many pages as you want
this way, I also made a book later using colored CD paper holders.
5. Decorate the tags using illustration art or abstract art you create
yourself or clip from magazines. You can incorporate pieces of
calendar art or things you have found at an art and craft store. Make
your art work personal by adding quotes and journaling. If you work
with digital art this would make an interesting addition to your art
book.
6. Finally, add the embellishments like fibers and eyelets, stickers
or metal tags.
You will enjoy making this book and it’s a good and unique way to
preserve a memory......
